DeerJen Productions has produced a diverse slate of films with both award-winning and emerging directors.
DeerJen’s work includes Chelsea on the Rocks, a film about the iconic Chelsea Hotel directed by Abel Ferrara and starring Ethan Hawke and Dennis Hopper, which premiered in the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival. Hounddog starring Daokta Fanning and Robin Wright, Holy Rollers starring Jesse Eisenberg, and For Ellen starring Paul Dano all premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Kiss of the Damned directed by Xan Cassavetes premiered at the Venice Film Festival and South by Southwest. Alongside Spike Lee, DeerJen also produced Evolution of a Criminal for PBS, a film written and directed by Darius Clark Monroe about the bank robbery he committed as a teenager. Other films include Furlough starring Melissa Leo and Anna Paquin, and Midnight Sun starring Bella Thorne.
Recently, DeerJen has developed the feature film Limelight with Amazon Studios, which will be directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon. The script was written by Nicholas Pileggi and Becky Johnston. DeerJen is also currently in production on Tunnel: Hip Hop in New York City, a documentary about the legendary nightclub that was a proving ground for some of today's biggest rap artists, directed by Sacha Jenkins.
DeerJen Productions is helmed by Jen Gatien, an independent producer who is dedicated to making films that recognize the rich tapestry of New York City. Outside of her work, Jen continues to serve her community as vice-chairperson of the board of the Lower East Side Girls Club, an organization that strives to empower girls to lead successful, healthy, and fulfilling lives. As a longstanding advocate for animal welfare, she is also a volunteer for Pupstarz Rescue, where she met Dobermans’ Dharma and Gaia, among other canine companions.
